Noticias de Casita Verde - Septiembre de 2019 ¡
Por fin encontré un momento libre para escribir el blog de septiembre! Hay tantas cosas sucediendo en el mundo de las Casitas Verdes e Ibiza Fènix, que he estado constantemente involucrado en reuniones, eventos, viajes y proyectos de mantenimiento urgentes desde el último blog y no he tenido mucho tiempo para atender mis historias de comunicaciones mensuales.
Sustitutos de carne y lácteos: ¡otro tema candente!
En este momento, la mayoría de nosotros tendremos la idea de que no podemos seguir comiendo tanta carne y productos lácteos si tenemos alguna posibilidad de mantener el aumento previsto de la temperatura global por debajo de 1.5 grados pero, por supuesto, no todos están preparados para cambiar sus hábitos de consumo diario. Esto significa que la industria alimentaria tiene que encontrar algunas alternativas interesantes para aquellos que se niegan a cambiar su dieta y están buscando algo que les brinde la misma satisfacción pero que sea más amigable con el medio ambiente, como la carne y los productos lácteos elaborados que saben como la cosa real. Quizás la respuesta aquí no es luchar contra la ingeniería y la innovación bajo la noción equivocada de que estas cosas pueden (o deberían) detenerse. Tal vez la respuesta es actuar a favor de los métodos de cultivo tradicionales y no ir en contra de la implacable marcha de la tecnología. Por lo tanto, no se trata de protestar y escribir ensayos sobre los males de la biotecnología en las redes sociales. ¡Y esta es una decisión sobre la que cada uno de nosotros tiene control!
Es la decisión de plantar huertos alimenticios y apoyar granjas de corral; guardar, compartir y vender semillas; criar un poco de ganado si quiere comer carne y huevos, pero también aprender a conservar su propia comida, de modo que no dependa totalmente de los supermercados para alimentarse y alimentar a su familia. Está en la decisión de viajar menos y plantar más, patrocinar a los agricultores cercanos, incluso si es inconveniente. El truco entonces es encontrar formas de hacerlo menos inconveniente, decir no a los alimentos baratos y procesados siempre y cuando su presupuesto lo permita. Reorientar tu correspondencia social y hablar más sobre cuántas plantas has cultivado, cuánta tierra fértil has regenerado, cuántas semillas útiles has guardado y cuántas personas has alimentado con tus propios cultivos.
Reconozca el milagro de la naturaleza y ejerza su derecho de nacimiento para participar en ese milagro. Respira vida en la tierra poniendo tus manos en el suelo tan a menudo como puedas. Tal vez deberíamos dejar a Monsanto morir a raíz de la conciencia de las demandas de los clientes de 'comida verdadera' y solo dar el ejemplo. Es así de fácil, y así de difícil.
En Casita Verde, en su mayoría seguimos una dieta vegana, porque es mucho más fácil que luchar para complacer a todos con diferentes ideas e ideales sobre la producción y el consumo de alimentos. Personalmente, no soy vegano ni vegetariano, pero soy un "ecólogo consciente". Soy tan consciente del impacto de mi consumo diario de alimentos, como soy consciente de mi uso de viajes motorizados impulsados por combustibles fósiles, consumo de agua y energía, generación de basura y gestión de residuos, además de mi responsabilidad social de ayudar a mi comunidad local con todo lo que puedo permitirme ofrecer. ¡Para mí, se trata de hacer lo mejor que puedas y ser consciente de tus acciones!
Granada Ecológica
Durante la segunda quincena de agosto, yo y Georgina Milani (la secretaria principal del movimiento Ibiza Fènix y mi novia desde hace un año y medio), fuimos a visitar a nuestro amigo Cubanito en la nueva Casita Verde que estamos instalando en el montañas de Granada. Esta vez, hemos llevado mi viejo Toyota Rav4, recientemente pintado de verde para adaptarse al entorno local y que tiene una barra de remolque, para tirar la caravana de 4,7 mts que hemos comprado en un punto de venta local.
La idea era instalar un lugar permanente para quedarnos y trabajar en el nuevo centro, sin perturbar el flujo de voluntarios al ocupar uno de los alojamientos, así como darnos la posibilidad de movernos por el área con una especie de casa/oficina móvil.
Nos hemos puesto en contacto con el grupo local de limpieza 'Sierra Nevada Limpia' después de conocer a algunos de sus miembros mientras caminábamos vestidos con nuestras camisetas de 'Ibiza Limpia'. Con suerte, Cubanito puede unirse a ellos en sus campañas de limpieza y también ayudar a aumentar la conciencia local sobre la basura en el área.
Tengo que decir que el nuevo proyecto de Casita Verde en Granada se ve muy bonito y sin duda seguirá el camino de la nave nodriza aquí en Ibiza, convirtiéndose en un ejemplo famoso de conciencia ambiental y prácticas alternativas de estilo de vida.

Casita Verde Ibiza
Durante la última quincena de agosto y la primera semana de septiembre, no tuvimos visitantes residentes, ya que la mayoría del personal permanente estaba fuera y queríamos tomar un pequeño descanso de la rutina habitual.
Sin embargo, antes de irse a Francia con su bicicleta para unirse a Howard Lewis en su casa allí, Dorus logró terminar de construir la estructura principal del nuevo estanque natural (ahora en su cuarto año de construcción). Este gran proyecto, que comenzó en 2015, debería estar listo para llenarse con las lluvias de invierno a fines de este mes, si todo va según lo planeado. Después de eso, aún tendremos que instalar las plantas especiales y la infraestructura para conectarlo a los huertos y comenzar a usar esto como parte de un intrincado sistema acuapónico que pretendemos usar para una mayor producción de alimentos de cosecha propia.
Recientemente hemos dado la bienvenida a tres estudiantes de Inglaterra aquí, para hacer un curso de tres meses sobre proyectos de desarrollo comunitario financiado con dinero europeo del programa Erasmus, y también ofreceremos un taller de Vida Sostenible de dos semanas desde el 23 de septiembre hasta el 6 de octubre, para residentes y visitantes de la isla (visite nuestro sitio web para obtener más detalles sobre los cursos y cómo reservar ) - www.casitaverde.com/2weekworkshops).
También nos gustaría dar una cálida bienvenida al chico italiano Mirko Abbruzzese, quien recientemente se unió a nuestro equipo permanente durante el invierno. Mirko es capitán de barco y trabaja para la compañía local de alquiler de yates 'Smart Charter'; tiene una misión ecológica especial llamada 'One Planet, One Life!' (Un planeta, Una vida). Día Mundial de la Limpieza
Por supuesto, a medida que nos acercamos al ahora famoso 'Let’s do it, World Clean-Up Day' el próximo sábado 21 de septiembre, se han celebrado muchas reuniones con otros movimientos de la isla, como Ibiza Sin Plástico y Consciencia Plástica, además de una variedad de personal de las autoridades locales, para organizar el evento y coordinar a los principales actores.
Esperemos que este año no seamos molestados por las fuertes lluvias, como fue el caso en septiembre pasado, cuando tuvimos algunas de las lluvias más fuertes del año justo al comienzo del evento.

Hablando de desechos plásticos en el medio ambiente, ahora está claro que las alternativas plásticas podrían ser tan perjudiciales para el medio ambiente como las que intentan reemplazar, por lo que la reducción es mucho más importante que el reciclaje, y un cambio fundamental lejos de todos los envases de un solo uso, plástico o de otro tipo, es la única solución real. Con más de un centenar de empresas diferentes, en Ibiza y Formentera, que ahora se unen al movimiento para dejar de usar plástico de un solo uso estamos muy entusiasmados con las perspectivas de tener un Ibiza 100% libre de plástico para 2023, así que asegúrese que ¡También está haciendo tu parte para ayudarnos a alcanzar nuestro objetivo común!
Visitas a Casita Verde: abierto nuevamente desde el 6 de octubre de 2019
Nos complace anunciar que el centro de ecología 'Casita Verde' estará abierto nuevamente para los visitantes desde el domingo 6 de octubre, continuando cada domingo hasta finales de junio de 2020, cuando tomaremos otro descanso en verano. El formato del día ha cambiado, por lo que podremos ofrecer a nuestros visitantes un recorrido personal de 3 horas por el centro, destacando nuestro enfoque hacia la permacultura y la vida sostenible. El recorrido comenzará a las 11.00 a.m. con un 'espectáculo de Aloe Vera', más un vaso de nuestra famosa bebida saludable local hecha con Aloe Vera fresco, miel local, limón y menta, e incluirá una visita a nuestros jardines, sistemas de recolección de agua y instalaciones de energía solar, el centro de Gaia y la oficina de la casa de botellas, baños ecológicos y duchas, los alojamientos, el nuevo Eco-Wagon completo y la Cueva Mágica.
El recorrido será seguido por una sesión de degustación de comida vegetariana estilo buffet servida desde las 14:00 hasta las 15:00.
Hemos decidido limitar los recorridos a un máximo de 20 personas y también establecer un límite de edad mínima de 12 años, para que sea una experiencia más cómoda para nuestros visitantes. Le pediremos una donación mínima de 35 € por persona y haremos descuentos para grupos de 10 o más personas (esto incluye la membresía a la asociación Ibiza Ecologic, recorrido por el centro ecológico además de todos los alimentos y bebidas ofrecidos durante la visita).
Es posible realizar recorridos privados otros días, entre martes y viernes, siempre que las condiciones climáticas lo permitan y nos avisen con suficiente anticipación (7 días al menos) para que podamos estar más preparados.
También tenemos la intención de renovar nuestra invitación para las visitas escolares locales, durante los días de semana; por este servicio no pediremos ninguna donación y para evitar complicaciones no se ofrecerán alimentos ni bebidas durante la visita.

Casita Verde News - September 2019
At last I found a free moment to write the blog for September! There are so many things going on in the world of Casita Verdes and Ibiza Fènix, that I’ve been constantly engaged in meetings, events, travelling and urgent maintenance projects since I wrote the last newsletter, so not much time left to do my monthly communication stories.
Meat and dairy substitutes - another hot topic!
By now, most of us will have got the idea that we cannot go on eating so much meat and dairy products if we have any chance of keeping the predicted global temperature rise below 1.5 degrees, but of course not everyone is prepared to change their daily habits. This means that the food industry has to come up with some cool alternatives for those who refuse to change their diet and are looking for something that gives them the same satisfaction but is more environmentally friendly, such as cultured meat and dairy products that taste just like the real thing. Perhaps the answer here is not fighting engineering and innovation under the misguided notion that these things can (or should) be stopped. Maybe the answer is in refusing to surrender time-honored growing methods to the relentless march of technology. It’s therefore not about protesting and writing essays about the evils of biotech on social media. The answer is is more likely to be acting ‘in favour of’ and not ‘against’ something. And this is a decision each of us has control over!
It’s the decision to plant food gardens and support free range farms; save, share and sell seeds; raise and breed a little livestock if you want to eat meat and eggs, but also learn how to conserve your own food, so that you are not totally dependent on supermarkets for feeding yourself and your family. It’s in the decision to travel less and plant more, to patronize your nearby farmers even if it’s inconvenient, and find ways to make it less inconvenient. To say no to cheap and processed food whenever, wherever, and if ever your budget allows. To re-orientate your social correspondence around how many plants you’ve grown, how much fertile soil you’ve built, how many useful seeds you’ve saved and how many people you’ve fed with your own cultivations.
Recognize the miracle of nature and exercise your birthright to participate in that miracle. Breathe life into the earth by putting your hands into the ground as often as you can. Maybe we should leave Monsanto alone to die in the wake of conscience customer demand for ‘Real Food’ and just lead by example. It’s just that easy, and it’s just that difficult.
At Casita Verde, we mostly follow a vegan diet, because it’s much easier than struggling to please everyone with different ideas and ideals about food production and consumption. I am personally neither vegan nor vegetarian, but I am a ‘conscious ecologist’. I am just as aware about the impact of my daily food consumption as I am aware of my use of fossil fuel driven motorised travel, water and energy consumption, generation of garbage and waste management, plus my social responsibility to help my local community with whatever I can afford to offer. For me, it’s all about doing the best you can and being conscious of your actions!
Granada Ecologic
During the second half of August, myself and Georgina Milani (the main secretary for the Ibiza Fènix movement and my girlfriend since a year and a half now), went to visit our friend Cubanito in the new Casita Verde we are installing in the mountains of Granada. This time, we took my old Toyota Rav4, recently painted green to suit the local environment there and which has a tow bar, to pull the 4.7m caravan we bought from a local sales point.
The idea was to install a permanent place to stay and work in the new centre, without disturbing the volunteer flow by occupying one of the accommodations, as well as give us the possibility to move around the area with a kind of mobile home and office set-up.
We also managed to get in touch with the local cleaning group ‘Sierra Nevada Limpia’ after meeting some of their members while out and about wearing our ‘Ibiza Limpia’ tee-shirts. Hopefully, Cubanito can join them in their clean-up campaigns and also help to raise the local awareness about garbage in the area.
I have to say that the new Casita Verde project in Granada is looking very lovely and will no doubt follow the Ibiza mother-ship in Ibiza, becoming a shining example of environmental awareness and alternative lifestyle practices.

Casita Verde Ibiza
During the last half of August and the first week of September, we had no resident visitors, as most of the permanent staff were away and we wanted to have a little break from the usual routine.
However, before popping off to France on his bike to join Howard Lewis in his house there, Dorus managed to finish building the main structure of the new nature pond (now in its fourth year of construction). This huge project, which began in 2015 should be ready to fill with the winter rains by the end of this month if all goes according to plan. After that, we’ll still need to install the special plants and infrastructure to connect it up to the vegetable gardens and begin using this as part of an intricate aquaponic system we intend to use for more homegrown food production.
We have recently welcomed three English students here for a three month City and Guilds course on Community Development Projects and will also be offering a two week Sustainable Living workshop from the 23rd of September until the 6th of October, for residents and visitors to the island (see our website for more details about the courses and how to book - www.casitaverde.com/2weekworkshops).
We’d also like to give a warm welcome to Italian born Mirko Abbruzzese, who has recently joined our permanent team for the winter. Mirko is a boat captain, working for the local yacht charter company ‘Smart Charter’ and has a special ecological mission to complete, called ‘One planet, One life’. We’ll be inviting people to join us here at Casita Verde for some presentation and discussion evenings about this new and exciting project during the next month, so please keep an eye on our social media pages for more details.
Ibiza Fènix
As soon as we have the new Ibiza Fènix website up and running, we’ll also begin to have more of our Thursday evening meetings at Casita Verde, so we can move a few of our more promising projects forward and gather more interested people together who would like to join in the movement. World Clean-up Day
Of course, as we get closer to the now famous ‘Let’s do it, World Clean-up Day’ on Saturday the 21st of September, there have been many meetings with other island movements such as Plastic Free Ibiza and Consciencia Plástica, plus with a variety of personnel from the local authorities, in order to organise the event and coordinate all the main players.
Hopefully this year we will not be distrubed by heavy rain, as was the case last September, when we had some of the heaviest rainfall of the year right at the beginning of the event.

Speaking of plastic waste in the environment, it’s now clear that plastic alternatives could be just as harmful to the environment as those they try to replace, so reduction is far more important than recycling, and a fundamental shift away from all single-use packaging, plastic or otherwise, is the only real solution. With more than a hundred different businesses in Ibiza and Formentera now joining in the movement to stop using one-way plastic, we’re getting quite excited with the prospects of arriving at a 100% Plastic Free Ibiza by 2023, so please be sure you’re also doing your bit to help us arrive at our common goal!
Casita Verde visits - open again from October 6th 2019
We are excited to announce that the 'Casita Verde' ecology centre will be open to visitors again from Sunday 6th October, continuing each Sunday until the end of June 2020 when we’ll take another summer break. The format of the day is changing, so we can offer our visitors a personal 3 hour tour of the centre, highlighting our approach to Permaculture and sustainable living. The tour will begin at 11.00am with an 'Aloe Vera show', plus a glass of our famous local health drink made with fresh Aloe Vera, local honey, lemon and mint, and will include a visit to our gardens, water collection systems and solar energy installations, the Gaia centre and bottle house office, eco toilets and showers, the accommodations, the new completed Eco-Wagon and the Magical Cave.
The tour will be followed by a buffet style vegetarian food tasting session served from 2.00pm until 3pm.
We’ve decided to limit the tours to a maximum of 20 people and also to make a minimum age limit of 12 years old, in order to make it a more comfortable experience for our visitors. We will ask a minimum donation of 35€ per person for the whole experience and give discounts for groups of more than 10 people. (this includes lifetime membership to the Ibiza Ecologic association, an Aloe Vera show, a full tour of the whole centre, plus all food and drinks offered during the visit).
Private tours on other days are also possible, between Tuesday and Friday, providing weather conditions allow and we have plenty of notice, so that we can be more prepared. (Normally, one week notice is required to book a visit!).
We also intend to renew our invitation to local schools wishing to visit us during week-days. For this service, we will not ask any donation, but there will be no food or drinks offered during the visit in order to avoid any complications.
