En primer lugar, me gustaría anunciar que a partir de finales de junio de este año, decidimos cerrar el evento de puertas abiertas de los domingos en Casita Verde, tras más de 17 años de actividad continua. Esta decisión fue tomada principalmente por mí mismo y Carlos de Andrés, uno de los otros directores oficiales de la Asociación Ibiza Ecologic, que dirige el centro de Casita Verde aquí en Ibiza.
Ha habido algunas ocasiones en el pasado cuando casi he cerrado el evento de los domingos debido a varias razones, pero luego decidí permanecer abierto un poco más, ya que obviamente es un lugar muy popular para pasar el domingo.
Sin embargo, ahora que hay literalmente docenas de excelentes lugares en Ibiza para comer deliciosa comida vegetariana e incluso vegana, supongo que Casita Verde ha cumplido su misión y ahora puede cambiar la dirección hacia un "centro de educación ecológica" totalmente equipado, que ofrece tours privados y eventos para aquellos que estén interesados en aprender nuevas formas de mejorar su impacto en nuestro cada vez más frágil planeta Tierra.
Por esta razón, estamos descansando un poco de las visitas públicas y nos estamos preparando para volver a abrir nuestras puertas a un número limitado de visitantes para fines de septiembre o principios de octubre de este año. Esta vez, pondremos el énfasis principal en ofrecer un tour completo del centro a cambio de una donación adecuada, con una 'degustación' gratuita para los visitantes de los inventos culinarios de Casita Verde hechos con productos locales, como nuestras famosas bebidas de Aloe Vera, Brownies de algarroba, quiches veganas etc.
También estaremos abiertos para visitas y eventos privados, por lo que las visitas serán solo con cita previa.
Desde el primer día, la idea de abrir Casita Verde al público, era demostrar que otra forma de vida no solo era más beneficiosa para nuestro planeta y nuestra propia salud, sino que también estaba al alcance de cada uno de nosotros. También fue para crear un modelo a menor escala de un Centro Ecológico mucho más grande llamado "Ibiza Ecolandia", que se construiría con dinero local e internacional y que estaría abierto al público todos los días. Este centro ecológico, bien diseñado y mucho más comercial, debe construirse en un lugar donde todos puedan acceder a él y donde los ciudadanos "conscientes" de nuestra sociedad puedan aprender a ser más "consecuentes".
En realidad presenté este proyecto al Consell de Ibiza en 2001, pero al igual que Leornado di Vinci con sus máquinas voladoras, no parecían entender qué era lo que quería construir y, por lo tanto, me dijeron que no podían ayudarme a hacer mi sueño realidad.
Han pasado dieciocho años desde aquel evento y, obviamente, el mundo (incluido el Consell de la isla de Ibiza), se ha vuelto más consciente de la gran necesidad de ayudar a "educar a la población" en relación a la gran variedad de problemas y soluciones ambientales presentes y emergentes. ¡Entonces tal vez es hora de sugerir que la isla de Ibiza considere la idea una vez más!
Al abrir un centro a escala comercial sobre la base de toda la experiencia que hemos adquirido en Casita Verde durante los últimos 17 años, podríamos usar la fama de Ibiza para atraer un turismo más consciente durante todo el año y, por consiguiente, volvernos más famosos como 'Destino de turismo responsable”. También podríamos invitar a todos los residentes de la isla a aprender algunas técnicas de estilo de vida más apropiadas, que pueden ayudarnos a superar la inminente disrupción que puede llegar por la creciente crisis climática.
Paralelamente a la idea del proyecto Ibiza Ecolandia, acabamos de terminar la presentación de una oferta muy interesante con financiación suiza para nuestro proyecto de ecoturismo "Ibiza Fènix", que comenzará este otoño si todo va bien con la solicitud de patrocinio.
De hecho, diseñé este proyecto hace unos años, pero al igual que todas estas ideas nuevas e innovadoras, tuve que esperar al momento adecuado para presentar este a las autoridades locales y a cualquier fuente de financiación interesada.
La fase piloto del proyecto será desarrollada por la rama de Turismo Responsable del movimiento Ibiza Fénix, y por lo tanto, se describirá detalladamente en el nuevo sitio web en el que estamos trabajando actualmente aquí en Casita Verde Ibiza. Quizás más adelante se pueda integrar en la oferta global del departamento de turismo del gobierno de la isla.
Mientras tanto, a medida que las reservas de agua subterránea continúan cayendo aquí en la isla, nos complace anunciar que el nuevo gobierno local parece haberse tomado en serio nuestras sugerencias para enfrentar la situación del agua y hemos acordado convocar una reunión con miembros de Alianza Por el Agua para hablar sobre qué podemos hacer para mejorar los sistemas de recolección, conservación y distribución de este recurso tan preciado y finito antes de que nos encontremos en serios problemas.
Aquí en Casita Verde, estamos preparando el centro para recibir una selección multinacional de estudiantes que participarán en nuestro taller "Vida sostenible", que comenzará el 22 de julio y durará dos semanas. (Por favor entra en nuestra página web para más detalles sobre cómo participar).
Obviamente, si conseguimos recibir la financiación adecuada para la fase piloto del Proyecto de Turismo Responsable de Ibiza Fènix, entonces Casita Verde podría convertirse en el epicentro de este nuevo modelo de turismo mucho más sostenible, que inicialmente se desarrollará desde octubre hasta el final de mayo. Con suerte se convertirá en una oferta de turismo ecoeducativo en toda la isla, que sin duda mejorará nuestras posibilidades de preparar a la comunidad local de cara a los cambios que podemos esperar del próximo período de caos climático e inestabilidad sociopolítica mundial.

Firsty, I'd like to announce that from the end of June this year, we decided to close down our Sundays @ Casita Verde open day event, after more than 17 years of continuous activity. This decision was made mainly by myself and Carlos De Andres, one of the other official directors of the Ibiza Ecologic Association which runs the Casita Verde centre here in Ibiza.
There have been some occasions in the past when I have almost closed the Sunday event, due to a number of reasons, but then later decided to stay open a little longer, since it’s quite obviously a popular place to hang out on Sundays.
However, now that there are literally dozens of great places in Ibiza to eat delicious vegetarian and even vegan food, I guess that Casita Verde has realised its mission and can now change the direction towards a totally equipped ‘eco education centre’, offering private tours and events for those who are specifically interested in learning new ways to improve their impact on our ever more fragile planet Earth.
For this reason, we are taking a little rest from public visits and getting ready to re-open our doors to a limited number of visitors around the end of September, or beginning of October this year. This time, the main emphasis will be to offer a full tour of the centre, in return for a suitable donation and inviting our guests to a free ‘tasting’ of Casita Verde inventions made with local products, such as our famous Aloe Vera drinks, Carob brownies and vegan quiches etc.
We will also be open for private tours and events, so visits will be by appointment only.
Right from day one, the idea of opening Casita Verde to the public, was to demonstrate that another way of living was not only more beneficial to both our planet and our own health, but was also within reach of every one of us. It was also to make a working model of a much bigger Ecological Centre called ‘Ibiza Ecolandia’, to be built with both local and International money and which would be open to the public every day. This well designed and much more commercial eco centre should be built in a place where everyone could access it and where the ‘conscious’ members of our society could learn how to become more ‘consequent’.
I actually presented this project to the island council in 2001, but like Leornado di Vinci with his flying machines, they didn’t seem to understand just what it was I wanted to build and therefore told me that they couldn’t help me to realise my dream.
Eighteen years have passed by since that event and obviously the world (including the Ibiza island council), has become more aware of the great need to help ‘educate the population’ in relation to the huge variety of present and emerging environmental problems and solutions, so perhaps it’s time to suggest that the island of Ibiza considers the idea once again!
By opening such a commercial scale centre, based on all the experience we have gained in Casita Verde during the last 17 years, we could use the fame of Ibiza, to attract a more conscious tourism all year round and consequently become even more famous as a ‘Responsible tourism destination’. We could also invite all the island residents along to learn some more appropriate lifestyle techniques, which can help us to ride out the imminent disruption which will be caused by the escalating climate crisis.
Parallel with the Ibiza Ecolandia project idea, we are just finishing the presentation for some very interesting offer of Swiss funding for our ‘Ibiza Fènix’ Ecotourism project, due to begin this autumn if all goes well with the sponsorship application.
I actually designed this project a few years ago, but like all these new and innovative ideas, I had to wait for the right moment to present this one to both the local authorities and to any interested funding sources.
The pilot phase of the project will be developed by the Responsible Tourism branch of the Ibiza Fènix movement and will therefore be fully described on the new website we are presently working on here in Casita Verde Ibiza. Perhaps later on, it can be integrated into the global offer from the island government tourism department.
Meanwhile, as the groundwater reserves continue to fall here on the island, we are very happy to announce that the new local government seems to have taken seriously our suggestions to deal with the water situation and have agreed to call a meeting with members of the Alianza por el Agua, in order to discuss what we can do to improve the systems for collecting, conserving and distributing this invaluable resource before we run into serious trouble.
Here in Casita Verde, we are preparing the centre to receive a multinational selection of students, who will participate in our ‘Sustainable living’ workshop, due to begin on July 22nd and run for two weeks. (please see our website for details of how to participate).
Obviously, if we manage to receive the suitable funding for the pilot phase of the Ibiza Fènix Responsible Tourism project, then Casita Verde could well become the epicentre for this new and much more sustainable tourism model, which will inicially run from October until the end of May. Hopefully, it will grow into an island wide eco-educational tourism offer, which will undoubtedly improve our chances of preparing the local community for the changes we can expect to see from the coming period of climate chaos and world-wide socio-political instability.
