Noticias de Casita Verde – Diciembre 2018
Junto con la continua amenaza de ser exterminados por los efectos catastróficos del cambio climático global, el candente asunto de la contaminación plástica parece estar llegando a la cima de la mayoría de las agendas ambientales relacionadas con el futuro de la presencia humana en el planeta Tierra. Este material potencialmente útil que ha sido ampliamente aceptado como un signo de la vida moderna, se está convirtiendo rápidamente en un problema, una pesadilla, a medida que nuestro mundo se va llenando de esta peligrosa y perjudicial amenaza para el medioambiente, especialmente en, los océanos, mares y ríos.
Cada vez más organizaciones ambientales y gobiernos de todo el mundo están considerando las mejores maneras de reducir drásticamente nuestra dependencia de este material complejo y buscando alternativas adecuadas que puedan reemplazarlo sin perturbar nuestra relación amorosa con el envoltorio de “usar y tirar”. Obviamente, el problema requiere una solución inmediata, por lo que necesitamos encontrar algunas respuestas rápidas que sean realmente efectivas, ¡y no solo proporcionar algunos remedios “tirita” o “parches” a lo que se ha convertido en una epidemia de proporciones casi inimaginables!
Aquí en la isla, nuestro grupo 'Plastic Free Ibiza' ha estado ocupado creando conciencia pública sobre el problema durante toda la semana europea de reducción de residuos (del 19 al 25 de noviembre), mostrando nuevamente el documental 'Out Of Plastic', más nuestro Nuevo video tutorial sobre cómo limpiar playas (ver enlace a continuación). También hicimos lo que se conoce como un 'Plastic Attac' en el supermercado Mercadona en Puig d'en Valls, donde nuestros miembros hablaron con los consumidores que abandonaban el edificio y ofrecieron intercambiar sus bolsas de plástico por bolsas de poliéster reutilizables, además de invitarlos a firmar, si estaban de acuerdo, una petición solicitando que el supermercado avance en sus esfuerzos para reducir la contaminación plástica. Con un total de 1627 supermercados en España, este gigante minorista de productos de alimentación, podría abrir el camino hacia la eliminación de los plásticos de “usar y tirar”.
La conclusión es que, a menos que los fabricantes, mayoristas y minoristas hagan un gran esfuerzo para dejar de producir tanta basura plástica, nunca podremos controlar la cantidad de plástico que termina en nuestro frágil entorno natural. Incluso con todas nuestras iniciativas de limpiezas de playas, de bosques y carreteras, talleres de reciclaje y esfuerzos de sensibilización, no estamos ganando la guerra contra la contaminación plástica. (¡No puedes vaciar la bañera a menos que cierres el grifo que la está llenando!)
En Casita Verde, este mes continuaremos con las reuniones de los jueves por la noche, con cena vegana y bebidas naturales desde las 8 pm, después una película (charla TED o un documental), seguida de una discusión comunitaria sobre el tema de la noche.
Nuestra intención es cubrir muchas de las diferentes ramas del movimiento Fènix a lo largo de todo el período de invierno, con la idea de formar grupos de acción y poner algo de vida en las diversas ONG que hemos registrado. Al mostrar películas interesantes y hablar sobre soluciones con personas afines, seguramente podamos promover algo de entusiasmo en la comunidad local por comprometerse con las causas y la acción, y una transición sinérgica hacia un futuro común más prometedor y satisfactorio, tanto para nuestra pequeña isla como para el resto del planeta.

Casita Verde News - December 2018
Along with the continuous threat of being exterminated by the catastrophic effects of global climate change, the hot subject of plastic pollution appears to be rising to the top of most environmental agendas concerning the future of human presence on planet Earth. This potentially useful material which has been widely accepted as sign of modern living, is rapidly becoming a nightmare of a problem, as our world fills up with this unhealthy menace to our natural environment, especially with respect to our oceans, seas and rivers.
More and more environmental organisations and governments around the world are considering the best ways to drastically reduce our dependence on this complex material and looking for suitable alternatives which could replace it without disturbing our love affair with use and throw packaging. The problem quite obviously requires an immediate solution, so we need to find some quick answers that will be really effective and not just provide some band-aid style remedies to what has now become an epidemic of almost unimaginable proportions!
Here on the island, our ‘Plastic Free Ibiza’ group have been busy raising public awareness about the problem during the whole of the European week of waste reduction (19th -25th Nov), showing again the video ‘Out Of Plastic’, plus our new tutorial video about how to clean beaches (see link below). We also did what is known as a ‘Plastic attack’ on the Mercadona supermarket in Puig d’en Valls, where our members spoke to shoppers leaving the building and offered to exchange their throw away plastic bags for re-usable polyester bags, plus asked them to sign a petition requesting that the supermarket advance their efforts to reduce plastic pollution. With a total of 1627 supermarkets in Spain, this giant food retailer could lead the way towards the elimination of use and throw plastic nationwide.
The bottom line is, that unless there is a serious effort made by manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers to stop producing so much plastic trash, we will never manage to control how much plastic ends up in our fragile natural environment. Even with all our attempts at beach cleaning, forest and road cleaning, recycling workshops and awareness raising efforts, we are not winning the war against plastic pollution. (You cannot empty the bathtub unless you turn off the tap that’s filling it up!)
In Casita Verde this month, we will continue with our Thursday night networking meetings, with a vegan dinner and natural drinks from 8pm, then a movie (This could be a TED Talk or documentary film), followed by a communal discussion about the topic of the evening.
It’s our intention to cover many of the different branches of the Fènix movement throughout the whole winter period, with the idea to form action groups and put some life into the various NGO’s we’ve registered. By showing interesting movies and talking about solutions with like minded individuals, we can surely spark off some enthusiasm for a local community commitment and a synergetic transition to a more promising and fulfilling common future, both for our little island and for the rest of the planet.
