Casita Verde - Granada

We're happy to announce that our second Casita Verde is up and running in Granada. Deep in the heart of the Andalusian countryside, you can find us at the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountains in a beautiful valley approx. 40km south of the city of Granada.

The centre, which is on a 3.5 hectare plot, is run by Rey Aldana, who worked at Casita Verde, Ibiza for 6 years before heading off to mainland Spain to begin work on our second Casita Verde.

We have a new team and the centre is completely off-grid in the most stunning, peaceful valley, surrounded by pine trees. We collect rainwater to shower, wash-up and irrigate the land, generate solar energy, collect and burn wood for heating and we have a compost toilet to add humanure back to the soil.

The sleeping accommodation is mixed, dormitory style - basic, but clean and warm. We have a fully functional kitchen and an in-door shower room with gas powered hot water.

We are particularly looking for volunteers to help us with construction, gardening, carpentry and cooking as we continue to build the community. Some experience is useful, not not essential. Enthusiasm is everything.

Once you apply we will arrange a call with you to talk about volunteering at Casita Verde. You might consider answers to these questions:

  • Why do you want to volunteer at Casita Verde?

  • What are you really passionate about and how do you express this passion?

  • What are your most successful techniques, skills or abilities that you know to be effective and create results?

  • What mindset are you looking to develop?

  • What do you find amusing?

  • How do you stay motivated and focussed?

  • What truly inspires you and how do you use this inspiration?

Rey Aldana introducing Casita Verde Granada

Volunteer for a Week or Two - with a modest donation for your stay with us to cover food, transport and accommodation. Join as a member of our community and live in dormitory style accommodation in the main house. Help prepare breakfast once or twice during the week, work in the gardens, on construction, carpentry or on other projects until lunchtime. Enjoy a healthy vegan lunch and then spend the rest of the day doing your own thing. Or maybe join us on a visit to the local hot springs.

Longer Term Volunteering - may be available on request after the first two weeks have been completed, depending on your experience and fit with the team.

Guidelines

(You can download our summary guidelines HERE)

  1. Casita Verde is located approx. 40km south of the city of Granada, so to avoid unnecessary road journeys we pick up and drop off volunteers from our linked hostel in Granada - El Granado - each Wednesday. As a new volunteer you need to be at the hostel by 8.00pm and can participate in our evening fundraising event before we head back to Casita Verde. If you plan to arrive in the city earlier in the week and need accommodation, the hostel is comfortable and reasonably priced. Go to: https://elgranado.com for more information and to make a booking. Please do not book until we have confirmed your pace at Casita Verde.

  2. We recommend that you DO NOT bring a car to Casita Verde.

  3. We ask for the donation for the two weeks in cash when you arrive.

  4. As with all Casita Verde properties we eat a plant-based diet, which we may supplement with vegetarian options like eggs, honey and cheese. Please tell us about any food allergies or intolerances you have before you arrive.

  5. We ask that you work after breakfast until lunchtime, as directed by the centre head, after which you are free to explore the countryside, read or work on your own projects. We also organise trips to the coast and other places of interest.

  6. You will need to enjoy a reasonable level of fitness and comply with our safety instructions, a copy of which is available on request.
