Mongolian Gers and Tipis in Ibiza

Continuing with our plans for a health and well-being centre at Casita Verde, we recently inaugurated two wonderful eco-dwellings, a Mongolian Ger - also called a Yurt - and a Native American style Tipi.

Both structures will act as an educational tool at our ecology centre showing in situ how non-permanent living spaces traditionally used by nomadic tribes, can make wonderful homes. We will be showcasing these green dwellings every Sunday at our open day 14:00-18:00h. More information will be available to take with you and the sales team will be on hand.

Some background info on terminology: What Is a Ger, aka Yurt?

At Casita Verde we have a Mongolian Ger. Sometimes also called Yurts, the structures vary from country to country. The word yurt is originally from the Turkic word meaning "dwelling place" in the sense of "homeland"; the term came to be used in reference to the physical tent-like structures only in other languages. In Russian, the structure is called "yurta" (юрта). As it is in Spanish. From Russian, the word came into English, and is also the basis for the term horde, meaning house or clan.

In Mongolian it is called a ger. Afghans and Pakistanis call them "Kherga" or "Jirga." In Kazakh (and Uyghur) the term for the structure is kiyiz, literally "felt home". In Kyrgyz the term is "boz", meaning "grey house", because of the colour of the felt.
