Noticias del año nuevo 2010 por Chris Dews, director de la Casita Verde.

Here we are at the beginning of a brand new year - and a hopeful new decade.
At our main centre Casita Verde, we began the year with a core team of only three resident members - myself, Tara Fredriksson the present vice president, and Jose Garcia, a very capable and friendly economist from Alicante, who plans to take some of our so far undeveloped projects into a new level of economic feasibility. Of course we had a very nice party to celebrate the old year ending and another one beginning, with some of our dearest weekly collaborators and some lovely people we had never met before. The night was blessed with a full moon, clear sky and even a partial eclipse, great food, a great ambience and dancing until four in the morning!!
In October last year, we said goodbye to one of our much appreciated and long time serving directors Mike Macleod, who decided to head off for some Greenheart travelling adventures. Mike, who continues to be on the board of directors from afar, has kindly volunteered to go on helping out as far as he can with website related stories as he moves around on his travels. Mike's job as secretary was taken over by my girlfriend Amanda Pi, who actually came to live at Casita Verde from the beginning of July and has also taken on the responsibility of the Greenheart Resonancia children's education program started by Ana Digón in 2004 and continued by Pamela Seife up until the end of springtime this year. Amanda is presently enjoying two months holidays with her mother travelling in New Zealand but will return to join our home team at the beginning of February, when we'll also restart the school visit program.
During the summer months at Casita Verde, we managed to build the best part of a used oil filtering station and alternative power installation, thanks mainly to the efforts of Alex Knebel from Cologne and with a lot of help from a Bolivian volunteer called Teddy Eddisson. Our friend Roland Schneider who actually designed the system and ordered the parts, did participate to a certain extent, but later decided to make himself busy with improvements to the communication system before finally giving up his volunteer post as technical director and returning to continue with his energy consultancy business in Germany. Between one thing and another, the system didn't get finished in the end and although not an essential part of the centre's energy setup, this interesting project still needs some work doing on it before it is fully functional. Also, the special generator we bought from Germany to use the alternative fuel we can now manufacture and which was sponsored by the Fundacion por el Futuro, only lasted for ten hours before breaking down. We are now awaiting spare parts before re-installing the engine, which should save us money on gasoline and help to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels. (this generator is obviously one of those Chinese made devices, which although didn't cost too much money, is certainly not of very high quality - sometimes we make mistakes!)
Another recent addition to the Casita Verde infrastructure is a new eco toilet, orignally started by Mariano Izquierdo last year, then lately continued by Teddy Eddisson and one of our floating volunteers Chris Meerkat, is presently being finished by myself and some of our team of active local members. This latest addtion to our eco toilet suite is being constructed using adobe bricks made here on site and dried in the sun. It will also be suitable for disabled people, further inmproving our eco-centre facility into the future. As we now have other volunteers working on the project, it could actually be finished by early springtime next year and will represent more of a commercial line in eco toielt facilities. (One day we still hope to start our Greenheart Constructions company, making eco toilets, eco showers and organic gardens for people with country houses and plans to live more lightly on our planet).
Meanwhile, the gardens continue to grow more beautiful each day but the amount of maintenance is increasing too. However, since our lovely young angels Vera Polatschek from Austria and her boyfriend Mariano Izquierdo from Salamanca are heading back to Casita Verde for another volunteering session, I'd say we're more or less saved for the moment and I can concentrate more on helping Jose to improve our economic performance!
I must say that having Jose Garcia onboard these days has given us a new hope for many of our green business projects, as well as promising to make the Casita Verde a much more efficient and economically sustainable project. Right now, we are concentrating hard on the development of the famous Ibiza Gold Carob project, busy planning a new factory space and investigating prices and availability of necessary machinery, practical ways to improve production and invent feasible business ideas with participants and investors.
On the Eco-tourism front, we've decided to go for a plan of offering various eco-orientated courses in selected mainstream hotels and agro-tourisms. This should give us plenty of practice in managing courses and publicity, on our way to opening our own residential eco-education centre within a couple of years or so. Again, our friend Jose is leading the way on this one, together with Tara, who's been dreaming of doing courses for some time now.
Already we're starting the process of getting this year's 'Earthrun' event organised for April, together with Jonny Lee from Follow Your Heart Productions and with David Moss from Ibicasa, who's offered to help us out enormously with advertising space in the Feb /March issue and a whole article in the April edition. This year's event should be an even bigger success than the first one we did last year and we're all looking forwards to making it a spectacular occasion.
Another nice story which is unfolding, is the plan to get Ibiza's recycling efforts up to scratch, by co-ordinating all the different entities into one movement, then doing a full feature article in the Ibicasa magazine in 4 languages for the April / May edition, when we will have our first wave of visitors on the island. Already we have successfully organised three visits to the separation plant next to Ibiza town and will interview the monitor from the Dexailles Foundation who do the tours, as well as a lovely Peruvian lady from Mallorca who has been the responsible person for public awareness on recycling in the Balearic islands. We're also working on a whole new concept, using cartoon characters to encourage small children to understand the basics of recycling and later persuade all the rest of the family to 'do it right' (children of this age usually work for free!)
The Greenheart shop is closed at the moment, but our Jose the economist has some good ideas for that one too, so we'll wait until spring time to see what he has in mind!
Another Greenheart mover just now is 'Greenheart Music', just about to release the long awaited CD4 , an album called 'Into the Light'. This should be our best CD to date and this time is dedicated to 'Gaia', our beloved planet Earth. In order to achieve the maximum effect possible, we intend to launch our fourth CD during our 'Earthrun' event, when several of the featured artists can play live in the street party held in San Antonio, thus gaining lots of great publicity from local tv, press and radio.
During the last few months, we have also had a good connection with our ex-secretary Ana Digón, who's been very busy translating at some extremely important conferences and meetings around Europe, including the recent climate talks in Copenahagen. We're hoping that Ana can afford the time to pop over from England and join us when Emanuel and Laura come to visit the island later this month, so we can have some kind of communal 'pow wow' and cook up some collective strategy for the next year and beyond.
2010 really is a time to join up the events, projects and general efforts we make into a beautiful 'Big Green picture' and try to enjoy as much of it as we can along the way. So far, things look very promising for a giant leap forwards into the light, as we prepare for the challenging months ahead and use our collective power of attraction to make it all happen!
