Back to work time
Well it's already more than half way through September, so it's got to be time to get out there and make things happen. It's now officially the autumn season and we've got a work list as long as both my arms together. The sun no longer threatens to burn your brain, so we can be outside all day if we have the energy to run around in the fileds and we wont run out of things to do for sure!
We've inherited yet another lovely volunteer student from the Earth university this year, so it's a real pleasure to be doing a few jobs around the palace gardens and enjoying the sunshine in good company. Erika the new student from Costa Rica is a smiley happy kid and always singing. She's helping out with all things that need doing, like composting and doing the Sunday lunch story but also has already learned to make nice bread and scones as well as natural soap and a variety of purses and bags etc from recycled materials. However, as she's really still at the university even though she'll be at Casita verde until almost Christmas, we've designed some serious working programme for her including assisting with the study project for school childrens visits due to begin in early October.
Apart from the placing of dedactic material all around the main centre, we're making a whole new garden area with local medicinal plants and trees etc, all watered from the outlet of the solar shower and washing machine installation. This will show the whole process of gathering rain water from the forest, using it to wash ourselves and our clothes, then re-using it to grow useful plants. Other jobs planned include the installation of a complete drip watering system for the Aloe fields and the competion of the waste water cleaning system supplying irrigation water from all points in the centre.
Danny law, our intrepid development manager has been busy drawing up lots of plans for improving the environmental information display and will be leading the effort to turn the place into a real education centre during the next few weeks. His first major job will be to turn the existing library buildig into the new 'Gaia centre', with a whole new look and utility for this nine year old reform.
Our Steffani is getting ready to open the market area for the winter season, so is busy moving everything around in there and decorating the place with natural elements. We also need to pick the rest of the carob crop and get it down to the local cooperative, so if anyone wants to come around on Thursdays and help us with the work, they'll be very welcome as there's no end of possibilities for energetic folk to come and join in the activities.
Meanwhile we do continue to visit the beach as often as possible and of course do our weekly candlelit dinner parties with various friends under the big carob tree, just to keep our noses in the party scene.
There's still time for some more
serious fun
for sure!
